Coronation Weekend

10th May 2023

What a weekend of celebrations that was!

On Saturday, some employees of the Trust went to Buckingham Palace, to watch the King’s Coronation Procession from the Victoria Memorial Grandstand.

Lucky to have won tickets in the Department of Health and Social Care ballot, they braved the wet weather to witness the royal procession, balcony appearances and fly past by the Red Arrows.

On Sunday the celebrations started at Whiteley Village with a Coronation Service run by the Church Committee, and the congregation was joined in song by the Whiteley Village Community Choir.

It was a busy day for the choir as they appeared again at the Whiteley Village celebratory event, organised by the Social Committee at the Clubhouse Conservatory and garden area.

There was plenty of food, drinks from the bar, a red, white and blue costume competition, and a raffle and live music, as well as the choir in their second performance of the day.

Later that day, some representatives of The Whiteley Homes Trust, staff and volunteers, enjoyed the Coronation Concert at Windsor Castle, as recognition of their work in a charity supported by King Charles III in his former role as the Prince of Wales, when he was the Trust’s Patron.

For our staff at The Trust the Coronation was a once in a lifetime experience, and a chance to participate in a moment in history. But, as many of our residents told us when sharing their royal memories in our previous news item, the Coronation of King Charles III was the third Coronation in their lifetime… definitely a deserving of a big celebration.
