In Touch – May

17th May 2022

We have been celebrating in this month’s In Touch. The link between isolation and loneliness and poor mental health is well known, and our lead story (pages 1 & 2) celebrates the success of the Mental Health Awareness Week 2022 (9 – 15 May) events organised by our Community Team to encourage residents to get together with old friends, meet some new ones or maybe try a new activity. Despite the unpredictable weather, the team were delighted at the turnout from residents across the Village including our care homes, and were very grateful to the local organisations and individuals that supported the events, and to our sponsor Verisk. We’ve also been celebrating International Nurses Day (12 May) by shining a light on the brilliant work of our nursing and care team. In this newsletter (page 3) we feature Molly, our longest serving nurse with 17 years at Whiteley! Her story reveals how many staff have continued to provide dedicated and compassionate care for residents, not only throughout Covid but also in some cases like Molly’s, while having to cope with personal tragedy at home too. Finally – don’t miss the beautiful mural (page 3) which has been painted by one of our very talented Wellbeing Coordinators, Megan Priestley, to help bring the outside in whatever the weather, for the residents of our nursing home, the Eliza Palmer Hub.
