Belly dancing & bongo drums get Olympics party off to a flying start!

4th August 2021

New Olympic sports are being added all the time and with break dancing due to feature in the 2024 Games, residents from one of our care homes Ingram House, have decided to cast their votes for belly dancing, after a brilliant Olympics-themed party with some very energetic entertainment!

It was game-on in the morning, where the resident ‘athletes’ started their warm-up with Olympic themed exercises involving large coloured hoops like the iconic rings. But the fun really got going in the afternoon, courtesy of our exotic entertainers, Maria the belly dancer and Ekram on the bongo drums!

Activities coordinator, Jess Sharp said: “Maria and Ekram had staff, relatives and even some of our more mobile residents up to dance, as well as lots of interaction with those in their seats too. All but three of our residents attended, and no-one could stop laughing!

“Everyone got into the party atmosphere and afterwards we shared a tasty supper prepared by Dorel, our catering supervisor. Even the entertainers commented on what a special afternoon it was, and the affection and care shared between staff and residents.

“It was a brilliant day and although I’m not sure the Olympics committee will be persuaded belly dancing is a sport, if we were being judged on how much fun we all had it would definitely be gold medals all round!!
