Singing for smiles! Whiteley welcomes back our entertainers

17th August 2021

It’s been wonderful to be able to invite entertainers back to perform in our care homes once again, and residents in our Eliza Palmer Hub nursing home were delighted to spend an afternoon again with singer Terry Gleed recently – a performance that was very kindly funded by a relative of one of our residents.

A popular singer with those living in our care homes and our extra care centre Huntley House before the pandemic, Terry took residents through a wonderful medley of old favourites, encouraging everyone to join in. Obviously the last 18 months have been a terrible time for those living in care and their families, but it’s also had a major impact on many who provide services to care homes such as entertainment.

Terry said: “I’ve been so looking forward to coming back to Whiteley, and today is the first time I’ve been able to sing to people in person in such a long time. Like many performers I’ve been doing what I can online but it’s obviously nothing like being there.

“As well as singing in care homes I also do musical theatre but of course they have been closed for many months too, so it’s been an especially difficult time for everyone, and like many performers I’ve had to innovate. It was lovely seeing the reaction of residents today – after all, making people smile and helping them forget their troubles for a while is why we do what we do!”

Well residents are clearly keen to make up for lost time as Terry’s already been booked for an encore at the end of the month! It’s another performance very generously donated by the same kind relative – so a huge thank you to them once again for their much-appreciated support to our charity.
